Your last sentence asks the fundamental question we all grapple with. First, it would be wonderful if everyone (including and especially evangelicals and fundamentalist Christians) would simply live and let live and go by the What Would Jesus Do mantra.
But, that's never been the reality we live with. When one faction of society (i.e. evangelicals, fundamentalists, and the politicians who exploit their passionate beliefs) spread fear of "the other" and impose their values on them with legislation, systematic repression, and threats, the marginalized must stand up for their rights or live in submission, repression, and/or invisibility.
Because many Christians have an incorrect concept of "grooming" doesn't make it so and only makes the word meaningless because it lumps persons they judge to be "sinners" into the same category as sexual predators.
Finally, PRIDE began as a protest against repression and police brutality. And, although it now serves to give visibility and community to a traditionally repressed segment of society, the entire concept of PRIDE is being tested and challenged to return to its roots in defiance of anti-LGTBQ political opportunism, fear mongering, and the natural result, terroristic intimidation and threats. We can love those who seek to erase us and still insist on being visible, even at our own peril. Isn't that what Jesus would do?
