Yes. There is a very loud portion of the trans community that immediately becomes defensive when anyone outside the community offers any comment or constructive criticism, or even asks a civil question meant to provoke informative conversation.

But, it's the exact same syndrome with the Christian community, where the mere mention of the hypocrisy of the church is interpreted as "Christian bashing."

But, defensive Christians are not blamed for losing elections, whereas, for some inexplicable reason, trans folks have been.

The fact is, most people have little or no interaction with trans folk, nor have they participated in any of the dialogue (online or off) to which you refer.

Still, Republican PACs spent $215M on ads to vilify trans people and taint certain candidates by association. How could trans activists be to blame that this campaign helped swing the result in favor of Republican haters?

The truth is this: the fear mongers and an vulnerable, misinformed public who fell for the boogieman scare campaign are to blame, not the trans community, or even the most strident trans activists.
