A multi-term "centrist" Democrat representative here in Oregon put out ads accusing his progressive challenger of being abusive to her staff when she was a city manager. It backfired. The congressman (endorsed by Biden, btw) lost his primary bid.

On the flip side, the deliberate and calculated exposure of Madison Cawthorn's sordid background resulted in him getting primaried.

Surely, anyone who wants to take Hildago down will use corruption allegations and/or insinuations to taint her. Still, Ted Kennedy survived the worst scandal ever. What the voters are willing to believe and what they turn a blind eye to is inexplicable.
