Yes. It's one thing for an ordained minister of a church to refuse to conduct a marriage ceremony for same-sex couples based on religious beliefs. But, for a state employee to use such beliefs as a basis for refusing to do what is basically a simple, clerical procedure is something else altogether. One has to wonder whether Davis was taken by surprise by the international uproar back in 2015, or whether she relished the celebrity. Interesting that Davis was a registered Democrat when she made her original stand, then switched parties when the kerfuffle happened.
