Yes, culture tends to evolve in cycles of slow progress building to quantum leaps, then periods of reactionary (conservative) response. The LGBTQ+ experience in this regard is not all that different than the struggle for racial equality and female autonomy. As for me, in the end, pretty much everyone (including the ex) accepts me for my true self. It was painful to lose friends in the aftermath of coming out. But, I guess they weren't really my friends anyway. So, the loss is minimal.
