While the questions being asked here are interesting and worth consideration, there are far too many issues with how the subject is addressed.

First, let's be accurate... Trump was still in office on Jan. 6. Biden took office on Jan. 20. The insurrection was incited by the sitting president (Trump) and took place under his watch. The intent of the insurrection was to prevent the peaceful transfer of power by stopping the House and Senate from carrying out what has in the past always been a routine, perfunctory process of officially certifying the results of the election.

That this obvious fact has to be corrected points out the meandering, disorganized nature of this piece. Why is the insurrection and who was president during the insurrection even relevant in this context? Yes, there were cis white men involved in the "No Libs Allowed" insurrection. And, there were numerous women involved as well. The piece is about liberal white cis gender men, right?

The writer is asking questions about liberal white cis men, but continually refers to white men in general as "the problem." I'm white, male, cis gender and liberal. I also identify as queer. I'm committed to advancing progressive ideals — because, in my opinion, progressive ideals are good for everyone, including cis gender white men. But, I also have particular interest in LGBTQ+ issues because those issues affect my life most directly.

To answer the principle question here... as a liberal white cis gender (queer) man, I don't feel that I have the authority to organize a movement or create an organized power base on behalf of people of color, women, or any other disadvantaged sub culture. I march. I contribute. I do whatever I can to help the causes I believe in, within the limitations of my energy and resources. I hope that doesn't sound defensive. If so, I apologize.

I have enough humility to believe that I still have much to learn about sexism, racism and my own white privilege. So, until such time as I'm reincarnated with different skin color and/or chromosomes, I'll be a team player, if that's alright with you (or, even if it's not... it won't change my choice.) Peace.
