While she was certainly aware of her husband’s sexual orientation and his compulsive extra marital dalliances, I didn’t get the impression that she fully accepted him or the situation in which she found herself. She insisted that the children be shielded from the truth. And, she wasn’t at all happy about having to sublimate her own creative ambitions to his. So, in that way, she allowed herself to be made less than. It was a trade off in the name of love, a compromise she felt she had to make, not one she would have chosen in an ideal world. Then again, that’s what a marital partnership is all about, regardless of the sexual orientation of the partners.
