Which is why I so seldom read cynical screeds by uncompromising progressives like this writer. It's refreshing to see some constructive hopeful pragmatism expressed by Ms. Elizabeth (as Al Franken so often says) "for a change."

I don't think it's cynical to call politics what it is... a slimy shit hole, populated by a bunch of self-serving idiots and assholes. But it is what it is, what it always was, and what it will likely always be. However, in that environment, decisions are made (or more likely not made) that have enormous effect on our lives and our future survival on this planet.

The very possibility that New Deal level legislation could be made law after the stagnation and obstruction we've become so accustomed to is beyond comprehension. I was the biggest Nancy Pelosi skeptic around. Now, I have enormous admiration for her political skills. I'm waiting for Schumer to exhibit half of Pelosi's ability.
