When I moved from Los Angeles to Nashville in 1996, I was quickly struck with the impression that there seemed to be far more lesbian couples out and about than there had been in L.A. Then, after coming out myself some years later, I found a large and accepting queer community on Church Street. Living in a coastal Oregon county without a single gay bar has been lonely. Certainly, there are a lot of LGBTQ folks living here... but they're pretty much all partnered up and domesticated. There's not much community round these parts for a single, elderly queer fella. I miss buck-fifty Vodka nights at Tribe in Nashville.
