When being tolerated is the best you can expect in a city, I find that itself intolerable. I have several “mature” trans women friends. I’ve seen the leers and the disgusted double takes when we’re out to coffee or at a concert. That it happens in gay bars too is sad. I hate what that says about people, especially elderly queer people like me.
