This is exactly my point. The protests have backfired by giving Chappelle the same hero status along side trans-phobic rightwingers as Joe Rogan and Tucker Carlson. The danger is that, instead of protecting the trans community from further threat and harm, making such a furor will only add further fuel to the fires of hatred. And, then, of course… who will trans activists and other protesters blame?

I’ll respond to your other comment here as well. The “piling on” to which I refer is not from trans activists, it’s from straight, cis gendered quasi liberals who haven’t even watched The Closer, but cancelled their Netflix accounts anyway, because they were told that was the only right way to protest. That’s out of proportion and hysterical.
