There is certainly nothing whatsoever new about this. Certainly, there is cruel irony to Baylor's appeal for the right to discriminate (and therefore put LGBTQ+ students at greater risk) on the basis of "biblical norms" and so-called Christian "values." Nothing could be less Christlike than to subject already marginalized students to second class status.

Queer and trans folk have suffered such bias and ill-treatment for much of history. The difference here is that the institution has received permission from the DOE to disregard legitimate complaints from one, specific campus community. It speaks to the sorry state of this nation and the queer and trans community's ongoing struggle for equality and equity.
