Storytelling gives the reader/viewer a chance to relate personally in some way to the characters and their situation, their (as this piece so cleverly tags it) "nesses." As a songwriter and author, I've learned that, ironically, the more personal and specific the character and the story are written, the more universal the story becomes.
And, if the reader/viewer doesn't directly relate personally, they've been given the opportunity to see into and appreciate a world they've never experienced and may never experience. In that way, storytelling brings us together and allows for greater empathy in this increasingly egocentric, individualistic world. Thanks for sharing your perspective. Much appreciated.
