News reports are, by nature, cryptic. We might presume that at least part of that is the product of severe editing. However, if an article about "breaking news" implies, "this is what we know so far" (which is not in and of itself, bad journalism) everything pertinent that is known to be fact should be included. Not just the alleged perpetrator's association with Farakhan and the Nation of Islam (along with a reminder of the threat to White folks Farakhan and his movement stands for). Including that information, to the exclusion of any other, suggests a possible motive and tells the reader to come to their own conclusion. This kind of reporting is not the least bit ethical. Shamefully, we live in a click-bate world that gives incentive to writers and publications to prey upon the public's fears and biases, with little or no concern for the consequences.
