I've long thought that one of the primary reasons for Trump's appeal (to those who worship him) is that he sells himself as the winner. It's as American as apple pie to love the guy who comes out on top, regardless of how he got there and, evidently, regardless of what he has to do to stay there.
One of Trump's unique talents is that he can simultaneously play the winner AND the victim. His fans admire him for being the winner and empathize with him for being so put upon by the woke mob. This allows the MAGA bunch to feel a vicarious sense of retribution against those libs, who he derides and dehumanizes. And, in the end, all they get out of the deal is the glee of seeing people like Bishop Budde get shouted down by their idol.
