It occurred to me that this same syndrome is present on both ends of the political spectrum. The urgent problems perceived by progressives — climate change, systemic racism, etc — are what we see everywhere, too. Our bubbles of information fuel our fears. Yes, unlike the brainwashed rightwingnuts, our concerns are based on actual science and true history, but the frequency illusion still applies. Therefore, we tend to assume that every severe storm is the result of human created climate change and that every black person shot by a white cop is a victim of racism. Those are not necessarily safe assumptions, nor do they bolster our credibility.
