Interesting piece. I always assumed that term “flaming faggot” derived directly from a faggot (bundle of sticks) being used as a torch. And, therefore, my logic led me to assume that boys and men who were suspected or accused of being homosexual were called faggots or a fags because they demonstrated effeminate (I.e. flaming) attributes.
