If there is any one thing children should learn (in school and at home) it's empathy. While, empathy comes naturally for some people, it is so alien to others. Opening up young people's perspective, helping them see through another person's eyes doesn't seem all that difficult. But, as Robert McNamara says in Errol Morris' doc "The Fog of War," "Empathy is not an American trait." Empathy is certainly not something most Americans value, even while those who lack it claim to live in a "Christian" nation. Thanks for your astute comment.
