If I actually had written that Gen Z was asking to be othered, you would be absolutely correct. But, I said that worthy, beautiful people were inadvertently volunteering to be othered. My statement is not at all pointed at any one generation.
And, honestly, I really don’t think anyone is using they/them pronouns to reclaim a discriminatory pejorative from the haters, as we have (and I do) with “queer.” If owning they/them actually made the same kind of defiant statement, I’d be all for it. Queer has never been confusing in conversation either, as “they” and “them” tend to be.
