Identity politics: "a tendency for people of a particular religion, ethnic group, social background, etc., to form exclusive political alliances, moving away from traditional broad-based party politics."
What Dems are nattering about is abandoning association with "woke, they/them" politics... which, yes, is tantamount to scapegoating queer and trans folks for Democrats' recent election losses.
However, conservatives are just as guilty of identity politics as any other group. They just happen to be masters at using the language of the left to vilify and dehumanize the imaginary "enemy within." Christian nationalism and an irrational desire to "own the libs" is as much of an identity in this context as being LGBTQ, or black, or Muslim. And, that ain't no euphemism.
