I had a similar experience, posting a link to one of my Medium pieces of a political nature in a queer online forum. Someone responded by saying that I shouldn’t assume that everyone shared my political views. He and I got into a rather uncomfortable email exchange outside of the forum. But I learned that even in queer spaces, there are all kinds of points of view.

I know that your Facebook group isn’t exclusively LGBTQ. But, wishing Happy Pride makes no such assumption, regardless of what the “be a man” jerk might think. His post was not only a personal attack, but an insult to every queer and trans person and ally. That no one came to your defense must have been disquieting. It indicates a lack of empathy based on a lack of knowledge about how such overt aggressions affect queer and trans folk. Quite a quandary, I must say. Wishing you a happier Pride from henceforth.
