Clapton has always been overrated. He's a tasteful player and a good collaborator with a decent voice. But, he owes ALL of his success to styles he copied from other genuine artists... Black blues players and JJ Cale informed his guitar playing and songwriting, and Delaney Bramlett provided the template for his vocal style. His pal George Harrison informed his studio production to the extent that "Let It Rain" (which Clapton wrote with Delaney's wife, Bonnie Bramlett) is indiscernable from a Harrison record of that period. Clapton isn't just a bigot and a xenophobic blowhard regarding race and religion, he's a musical thief who never created anything remotely original in his life.
