Boys are also programmed to believe that any emotion other than anger is unmanly and therefore unacceptable. Boys are told not to cry. Not revealing one’s emotions is sign of strength.

Girls, on the flip side, are free to express every emotion other than those feelings associated with anger and therefore are strongly discouraged from expressing their discomfort with a boy’s aggressiveness. It’s a toxic recipe for sure.
