As I'm not black or a woman, I can only write from my own personal perspective, which is white, male, cis gender, and queer. Admittedly, prior to the murder of George Floyd and the flurry of anti-racist writing that followed, I was as unaware of my own white fragility as I was of the straight fragility with which I've only recently come face to face.
Perhaps I'm naive, or have been blind to the reality that, simply because someone is a member of a Unitarian Universalist fellowship, that they actually live by UU principles. Unfortunately, this incident has proven that assumption to be inaccurate, which has been extremely disillusioning.
The "Who knew that could happen?" was meant to be ironic and self-deprecating, not literal. Sorry if there was any misunderstanding there. Thanks for reading and for your instructive comment. Peace.
