As I learned as a songwriter, the more personal a story is, the more universal it becomes. Sounds counterintuitive, but it’s true of pretty much all writing. Grief is a mysterious experience, one, like falling in love or becoming a parent, one can hardly prepare for. It always helps to hear that others have experienced similar disorientation and inexplicable delusions when in the throes of loss.
