As always, confirmation bias rears its ugly head. I'm just as guilty as anyone, tending to leap to conclusions and believe reports that confirm my own prejudices.
It seemed like such a simple, cut-and-dried example of queer bashing and a school that failed to protect queer, non-binary, and/or trans students, the kind of story one might expect in a state with endemic anti-LGBTQ policies and hateful authorities. But, evidently, it's far more complex than that... which makes it that much more tragic.
I wonder if the truth will every be completely revealed. Regardless, it's highly doubtful that the whole story will ever be fully understood. After all, we all want to hear the story we want to hear. Inconvenient facts just muddle the picture.
