As a glam rocker in the 70s, I enjoyed playing with gender, mixing things up, messing with long entrenched notions of sex role stereotypes. Drag queens often display wonderfully playful senses of humor. Gay men often use snark as a defensive tactic to ward off pain and to bond with each other. Certainly, being trans has to be incredibly difficult and stressful. And, having to constantly remain wary of imminent threat has to wear on a person’s sense of humor.
Some of my favorite comedians are lesbians… Tig Notaro and Fortune Feimster in particular. While Mae Martin has a way to go, she also has a healthy attitude about her identity.
What this ol’ queer is getting at is this I appreciate this writer’s sense of humor. Thanks for lightening up the vibe ‘round these parts. It so often tends to get heavy and we forget to laugh… and that ain’t healthy.
