Although the regressive, smothering forces of cultural conservatism and White Christian Nationalism have played a large role in America for centuries, this film seems visionary. The all-white/100% hetero/normative America depicted in Pleasantville seems pretty close to the vision MAGA would exploit some 18 years later.

Goes to show that, for far too many, such biases and twisted ideas about history are insidiously passed down from generation to generation. Book censorship, anti-drag and "Dont' say gay" laws are promoted to "protect children"... when, in fact, they are really intended to brainwash children into seeing the USA as Christian, White, and hetero-normal. Those who don't fit into this vision need not apply.
